| Research Degree 
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) · A PhD requires that candidates undertake in-depth research in order to make an original contribution to the body of knowledge in their chosen studies. · A PhD can lead to or enhance an academic career and is highly regarded by private and public sector employers. · The entry requirement for a Doctor of Philosophy is usually a bachelor degree with Honors or an approved equivalent qualification. · For full-time students the course length is usually between two to four years, and four to eight years for part-time students. · A thesis for the Doctor of Philosophy must make a significant contribution to knowledge, be worthy of publication and give evidence of your ability to undertake further research without supervision. · A PhD thesis should be no more than 100,000 words in length.
Find a Research Topic · You should discuss with the Academic Dean a broad plan for your research topic. · Typically as your research progresses your thesis topic will become better defined. · You are required to nominate a working title at the beginning of your enrolment but may change this at any time. · Your application will only be accepted if the University is satisfied it can provide you with a supervisor with appropriate expertise.
Duration of Study · Candidate must be registered for a minimum of 1 year (Master) or 2 years (Doctorate) before a thesis or dissertation can be submitted for examination. · The maximum duration of study is 5 years for Phil.M Candidates and 8 years for PhD Candidates.

A Masters by research degree · provides specialized research training for those preparing for careers in academia, government and industry; and to provide professionals with the means to increase their knowledge and upgrade their qualifications. · The entry requirement for Masters by research degree is usually a bachelor degree or an approved equivalent qualification. · Students for this degree undertake a research programme that requires proficiency in research methods and techniques, and an adequate knowledge of the literature. · The study should also make a distinct contribution to scholarship in your field. · A thesis for the MPhil degree should be no more than 40,000 words in length. |
